DeAndre Hopkins wasn’t able to get jersey No. 10 with the Kansas City Chiefs because that belongs to Isiah Pacheco.
The newest Chiefs wide receiver selected No. 8 and there is a great reason for his decision. He is paying tribute to an late athlete from another sport.
Hopkins will wear No. 8 to honor Kobe Bryant.
“Kobe Bryant, one of my favorite athletes of all time,” Hopkins said Thursday. “So I knew if I ever got the chance to wear No. 8, just like when I picked No. 10, Messi was my favorite soccer player underdog, felt like me at the time coming out of college, and Kobe, No. 8’s a special number.”
DeAndre Hopkins says he chose No. 8 in honor of Kobe Bryant.
