What Humidity Does to Fabric at a Structural Level
Fabric absorbs atmospheric moisture even when it hasn't been rained on directly. In cities like Mumbai and Kolkata, relative humidity during peak monsoon months sits between 80 and 95 percent. At those levels, natural fibres swell at the weave, synthetic fibres trap heat against the skin, and any garment that doesn't dry completely between wears begins to break down from the inside. The degradation isn't dramatic, it's a slow loosening of threads, a fading of colour, a faint smell that washing doesn't fully remove. By the time you notice it, the garment is already compromised.
