What Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell have done after Man Utd reach Chelsea transfer 'agreement'

Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell are away on holiday off the coast of Spain with a few friends – all while Manchester United are working hard to sign the Chelsea midfielder. The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford lately, though they face tough competition from Liverpool and interest from Arsenal.

Chilwell posted several pictures to his Instagram page as he and Mount take in the sun after what was a disappointing season with the Blues. The Blues duo will have a longer holiday than some this year, having both been omitted from the England squad due to injury.

The left-back appeared to pull his hamstring during the 3-1 win against Bournemouth last month. Speaking in his post-match press conference, Frank Lampard confirmed: "[It's his] Hamstring. We don't know [if it's serious], but with a hamstring at this point of the season, it's a worry for the remaining games."

Chilwell proceeded to miss each of Chelsea's remaining fixtures. As for Mount, he struggled with fitness issues since mid-February, featuring just once – off the bench – in the Blues' final 14 Premier League games of the season.

So, once the duo return from their summer break, they very well may have played their final game together at Chelsea. In fact, following the defeat to Newcastle United on the last day of the campaign, Chilwell was seen comforting a visibly emotional Mount.

Speaking to Sky Sports last month, Frank Lampard conceded that he doesn't know the solution to keeping Mount in west London. The Blues' former caretaker boss said: "I think that’s a difficult situation because from working with Mason - and not just Mason, other players when I was here before - they have either gone on to be really important players for the club that have a real relationship with the fans because they really feel the club, having been in the academy since eight years of age, and some of them have gone on to other clubs and the club have done well out of that and you wish them well in their careers.

"I think with Mason particularly as an individual, I don’t know what the solution is going to be because it’s the club and Mason’s issue. I don’t know where exactly Mason is at personally, he’s got a year left on his contract.

"I know he’s held in high regard at the club and I know the club are trying to do what they can to make him stay, but I also think that Mason, I’d never want to stand here in the modern day and talk about what a player should do because they’ll see it all from their own eyes.

"I think in the old days it would be why are you leaving the club? In the modern day it’s you should move on, and we’ve got into this situation that is happening now."
