In most “expert” mock drafts, the Raiders usually take a quarterback at No. 7. More often than not, that quarterback is Will Levis from Kentucky. But what do fans want the Raiders to do with their top pick?
In a recent article by Sam Monson of Pro Football Focus, he took a look at the most common selections for each team using their mock draft simulator from fans.
For the Raiders, the most common pick has been Illinois cornerback Devon Witherspoon (17.1%). Here is what Monson had to say about that selection and the thought process from fans of the Raiders at No. 7:
Raiders fans are truly conflicted about what to do with the No. 7 pick. They either want secondary help or a quarterback to sit behind Jimmy Garoppolo. Ultimately, CB1 on PFF’s big board, Devon Witherspoon, is the top choice among those mock drafting for Las Vegas. Witherspoon recorded the highest coverage grade among FBS defensive backs in 2022 and is an elite man-coverage cornerback.
If the Raiders don’t pick a quarterback at No. 7, it does feel likely that they will draft a defensive back. Witherspoon is one of the top cornerbacks in the class and he might just be the most physical of the bunch.
Pairing him with another former Illinois cornerback in Nate Hobbs would be quite the duo for the Raider moving forward. Expect Witherspoon to be on a short list of options for the Raiders with their top pick.
