ExpressVPN is one of the most well-known VPNs on the market, and for good reason. It excelled in our most recent round of extensive testing in areas from streaming to security, making it genuinely one of the best VPNs money can buy.
A number of leading VPNs are upgrading their products, beyoind just VPN protection. One subscription now gets you access to a full-blown privacy suite, with NordVPN, Surfshark, and Proton some of the companies to offer this.
ExpressVPN has joined them, and one subscription gets you access to five standalone apps – ExpressVPN, ExpressMailGuard, ExpressKeys, Identity Defender, and ExpressAI (coming soon).
Idedntity Defender is a US-exclusive and is ExpressVPN's most recent release. It's available with an ExpressVPN Advanced and ExpressVPN Pro subscription. The complete array of features is reserved for the latter plan.
I'll dig into what Identity Defender is and why it can help keep you (and your data) safe online.
What is ExpressVPN's Identity Defender?
ExpressVPN has long been one of the most secure VPNs. But as online threats continue to evolve, products need to be adapted and developed to help keep you safe and your data safe.
Identity Defender has upgraded and expanded its original four features: ID Alerts, ID Theft Insurance, Data Removal, and Credit Scanner.
All features are included on both ExpressVPN Advanced and Pro plans. You can easily access any of the features, as well as see a detailed overview, on the Identity Defender app dashboard.

ID Alerts
Identity Defender looks for appearances of your data on the Dark Web. ExpressVPN says it offers "one of the most comprehensive monitoring engines in the industry."
You'll also be alerted to any uses of your Social Security Number, as well as any attempts to change your address.
ExpressVPN says "if your information appears online or is potentially misused, you'll get real-time alerts so you can act fast to protect yourself."
ID Theft Insurance
ID Theft Insurance is available should your data be fraudulently used. The cover also helps with recovery and restoration costs, and financial losses.
Up to $3 million is available for ExpressVPN Advanced subscribers, with up to $5 million available for ExpressVPN Pro subscribers.
Data Removal
Data Removal automatically sends out data removal requests to any data brokers holding you data. This aims to reduce the chances of ID theft, spam calls and emails, and doxxing.
Credit Scanner
You can easily keep track of your credit score. Quick information is available at a glance, along with monthly detailed reports.
You'll be notified of any new accounts in your name, alongside sketchy inquiries, and unexpected changes to your credit score.

New features
A number of new features have been introduced by ExpressVPN to coincide with Identity Defender receiving its own app.
The following features are exclusively available to ExpressVPN Pro subscribers:
- Home and Auto Title Records – Monitors public records for any changes to property or vehicle ownership
- You Neighbourhood Security – Alerts you if a registered sex offender moves into your area
- Court and Judicial Records – Checks for criminal court records filed under your name
- High-risk Financial Transactions – Connects via secure, read-only access to highlight unusually large or suspicious transfers
- 401(k) Account Activity – Monitors retirement accounts for unauthorized access using read-only data
How do I get ExpressVPN's Identity Defender?
In order to get all of the features mentioned above, you will need to sign-up for a 28-month subscription to ExpressVPN. However, please keep in mind that, at the time of writing, Identity Defender is still a US-exclusive.
The core Identity Defender features are included with ExpressVPN Advanced and Pro plans. ExpressVPN Advanced costs $2.92 per month ($81.72 upfront pre-tax).
All Identity Defender features, as well as the higher amount of insurance coverage, are included with ExpressVPN Pro. ExpressVPN Pro costs $4.87 per month ($136.32 upfront pre-tax).
