What Georginio Wijnaldum did on Twitter after Liverpool won the Carabao Cup

Former Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has liked various Liverpool victory tweets after the team's Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea on Sunday.

The Reds triumphed at Wembley Stadium via a penalty shootout when Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa blazed his spot-kick over the bar.

The win was a record ninth League Cup for Liverpool and their first under Jurgen Klopp, leaving only the FA Cup for the German manager to win as Liverpool boss.

Wijnaldum, a vital part of the team winning the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and their first Premier League title a year later in 2020, left on a free transfer last summer and joined French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

But the move has not gone to plan for the Dutch midfielder, who has struggled to maintain a steady presence in the star-studded PSG squad.

And having spoken about his disillusionment of joining the Ligue 1 side, Wijnaldum's Twitter likes are full of tweets about Liverpool winning the Carabao Cup as a further sign the 31-year-old regrets swapping Anfield for the Parc des Princes.

Among those tweets are Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold posting pictures of themselves with the trophy, as well as tweets from the club's official Twitter account celebrating the team's success.

Speaking during the October international break, Wijnaldum opened up about being happy in France.

"I can't say I'm completely happy," Wijnaldum said. "Because the situation is not what I wanted.

"But that's football and I'll have to learn to deal with that. I'm a fighter. I have to stay positive and work hard to turn it around."

Last month, the former Liverpool star clarified those comments.

Speaking to the official PSG magazine, he said: “The fact is, when I did this interview, I was just a little disappointed with the way things were going in sporting terms at the start of the season, on a personal level.

"During this period many thought that I wasn’t happy at the club when I actually was. I was simply not happy with the playing time that I was being given at that time. A journalist asked me: ‘Are you satisfied with your playing time?’ No, I wasn’t. I think any player who spends more time sitting on a bench than on the pitch won’t be fulfilled by that situation.

"The media interpreted my words by saying that I wasn’t happy at PSG, which was absolutely not the case.”
