England have been knocked out of the 2022 World Cup against France in the quarter-finals. Three Lions captain Harry Kane scored a penalty and later missed one as Les Bleus claimed a 2-1 victory in Qatar.
Aurelien Tchouameni scored France's opening goal in the 17th minute before Kane equalised with a penalty early in the second half. Arsenal's Bukayo Saka was seemingly fouled in the build-up to Les Bleus' opening goal in the first half but VAR deemed that the goal was allowed to stand.
The Tottenham striker was also fouled in the first half but VAR denied England a penalty after Dayot Upamecano made a rash challenge inside the area. Mason Mount won a penalty late in the second half but Kane was unable to convert his second spot kick of the match, blazing his shot way over the crossbar.
