What Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland said about new Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland spoke of his admiration for Jesse Marsch back in November 2020.

The Norwegian superstar - who was born in Leeds - played under Marsch for five months while making his name at RB Salzburg at the backend of 2019.

The 48-year-old American was last night appointed as new Whites manager following the departure of Marcelo Bielsa on Sunday.

Many believe the decision to hire Marsch is a risk due to his inexperience when it comes to managing in the Premier League.

However, previous comments from Haaland should reassure Leeds fans, with the 21-year-old describing his former boss as ‘amazing’ in an old interview with CBS Sports.

“Jesse and I had a great relationship,” he said.

“We still talk on the phone sometimes. He was an amazing manager for me, and we had some great memories together.

“I am lucky to have gotten to know him as a coach, but also as a person.

“He was very good with me. As you saw, I was very happy on and off the pitch in Salzburg.

“Even though it was just six months, it was a good time. He is an amazing guy.”
