Flights from Newcastle International Airport were delayed on Friday (16 September) due to a strike by French air traffic controllers. Now France’s Civil Aviation Authority have threatened further strikes for September as talks between France’s Civil Aviation Authority and an air traffic control union have failed to provide a solution.
The three-day French air controllers' strike, called for by The Syndicat national des contrôleurs du trafic aérien (SNCTA) union, will effect mostly short and medium-haul flights and will take place next week on Wednesday 28, Thursday 29 and Friday 30 September.
Many UK companies are set to be affected including British airlines that use French airspace. The strikes will also coincide with a nationwide strike from the General Confederation of Labour (CGT) union on Thursday 29 which will see shortages of baggage handlers and technical staff in airports.
