The night version of Dire Marsh turns Marathon into a survival-horror game, with creepy sounds, pitch-black darkness, and new enemies. One of the new enemies is an Anomalous Reverb, which you must track down to progress faction contracts.
Here’s everything you need to know about Anomalous Reverbs in Marathon, what they look like, and where to find them.
Anomalous Reverbs location in Marathon
Anomalous Reverbs spawn on Dire Marsh (Night), aka the Night Marsh, zone. They can appear almost anywhere on the map and look like white glowing nodes. If you ping it, it’ll show up as Anomalous Reverb Emitter.
While the spawns are random, there are a few locations you can check to try to target them:
- South of Intersection in the open area.
- In the water areas of the Canal.
- East of Greenhouse.
- North of Greenhouse.
- At the East Gate.
At the time of writing, it seems that Anomalous Reverbs spawn only in the Sponsored Survival mode. It’s unclear whether it’s a bug, but it’s the best mode to try and find them. Keep in mind that if you queue as a Rook in this mode, you won’t be able to complete contracts.
How to defeat Anomalous Reverb in Marathon
Once you get close (around 25m) to the Anomalous Reverb, it turns red and starts to launch homing projectiles that deal damage. Anomalous Reverbs often spawn in clusters of two or three, so be mindful of the surroundings. Otherwise, you might get easily overwhelmed by three Emitters shooting projectiles at you.
Even when playing solo, focus on destroying the Emitter itself rather than the projectiles. The Emitter never stops spawning new projectiles, and destroying one splits it into three. You can also stay outside of its range and destroy it using long-range weapons.
Anomalous Reverbs don’t drop anything and are mainly for you to complete contracts and increase reputation with factions. Unless stated otherwise, Anomalous Reverb kills count towards the contract even if you fail to extract. So feel free to queue with a Sponsored Kit and quickly die after completing the objective.
