Alan Shearer has heaped praise on Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope, hailing his performance in the 0-0 draw at Brighton as 'absolutely magnificent'.
Pope had very little to do in the Magpies' 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest on the opening day of the new Premier League season, but he was kept busy in Newcastle's first away game. The goalkeeper made five saves as Newcastle made it back-to-back clean sheets.
The 30-year-old produced a sensational stop to deny Adam Lallana in the second-half, which was arguably his best save of the afternoon.
"It was a combination of poor finishing and also some very, very good goalkeeping today from Nick Pope," said Shearer on BBC's Match of the Day.

"The first save from (Solly) March, he just gets his hand to it and Trippier's cleared it off the line. This one from Lallana. What about this save, down to his left-hand side with a huge hand there. Great agility to get down and get that away.
"March again, and this time down to his right-hand side, and these are very, very good opportunities that Brighton are making.
"I thought Nick Pope was absolutely magnificent. It wasn't a very good performance from Newcastle, certainly not like last weekend. They had to rely on their goalkeeper to get something."
