West Lothian woman hid 'secret body' from family after sneaky diet for BBC show

A West Lothian woman who took part in a get-fit show on the BBC hid her new body from family during her fitness journey with presenter Stephen.

53-year-old Joan, from Livingston, teamed up with Secret Body host Stephen in order to drop from 16 stone to 14 stone, and be able to go kayaking with her partner Jackie.

When speaking about her home life, Joan said: "I am so lucky. Jackie is a great cook, it's like having a private chef, her food is exceptional.

"I like quite a few things that I know put weight on, like bread, chips and so on.

"I was always quite fit and healthy growing up, but the last few years things have changed. The last few stone of weight gain has got me to the point that I don't feel good anymore."

Joan goes on to explain how her confidence has been stunted due to weight gain, and she is ready to make a change in order to live a more active lifestyle.

She also touched on a more raw aspect of why she is doing this, going into the family history of why she needs to lose weight.

Joan continued: "My dad died of a heart attack at just 43, and it was quite a massive heart attack as well. We were all told to keep our weight down, and I've just done the opposite.

"I just don't want to die like my dad did, he was a good man and he should still be here. I would like to do this for my mum's sake as well, to show her I can be fit and healthy, and she won't risk losing one of us as well."

Fitness guru Stephen speaks to Joan and finds out about her unhealthy snacking habits, and proceeds to give her a fake body suit to replicate her old body after she loses weight.

Joan at the end of her fitness journey, was then able to shed the fat suit and show off her brand new, healthier body to her family and friends.

After her long battle with her mind and weight, Joan said: "I can't wait to get out in the water and do what I promised myself to do. I am so ready for this!"

Secret Body is available to watch on BBC iPlayer on Tuesdays at 10pm.
