West Lothian pub granted lunchtime opening on Sundays for sports fans

A West Lothian bar has been granted permission to open earlier on Sundays to accommodate football fans.

Local councillors agreed three variations to local licensed premises when they met on Friday morning.

Prior to the start of the meeting, the first since the death of the Queen was announced on Thursday evening, acting chair, Councillor George Paul called for members and officers to stand for a minute’s silence.

And councillors learned that a Livingston business is one of the best the UK.

The Licensing Board accepted an application from the Blackridge pub, Coopers Bar lounge, in the Main Street to open earlier on a Sunday.

The Board granted an application to open at 11am on a Sunday to meet demand around televised sporting events - which tend to start at Noon.

Councillor Stuart Borrowman said: “In 15 years as a local councillor I've never had a complaint of any sort. It's a perfectly decent local pub and I have no difficulty with the amendment being sought.”

The Board also formalised licensing of Home Bargains cafe in its Livingston unit. An agent, Richard Taylor, explained that the cafe had been missed out of the wording in earlier applications and this application was to formalise the licence. He apologised to the Board.

Mr Taylor said the cafe was the best performing in any Home Bargains outlet in the UK.

Local councillor Alison Adamson said “Being top in the UK for Livingston is something we should celebrate.”

The Board also granted a variation to the licence for the Volunteer Arms in Uphall to permit entry for children and youngsters with adults for meals or when attending functions. The application also sought to include a restaurant function to the licence.
