East Whitburn handball star Chris White is hoping to lead Great Britain to 2026 Handball European Championship qualification success as their campaign gets underway tomorrow (Friday).
The 24-year-old is part of the GB squad looking to advance through Qualification Phase One in Azerbaijan this week.
White and his team-mates kick things off with arguably their toughest tie on Friday as they take on Cyprus.
Following that clash, it’s games against the host nation and Malta with only the group winners progressing to the Promotion Round.
That would see them face-off against the four lowest ranked teams from the 2024 qualifiers for a bid to reach Qualifying Phase Two where 32 teams will battle it out to reach EHF Euro 2026, being staged in Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
Speaking to the Courier ahead of the tournament, White said: “We’re going there with the view of winning the competition. Anything less than that will be a failure in my eyes.”
