West Lothian Fencing Club members have been in sensational form in recent weeks as they picked up medals galore and produced a string of brilliant performances at three events recently.
At the Scottish Youth Championships, the youngsters took two silver medals and five bronze medals across epee and sabre.
The club then followed that success up as the senior teams travelled to the Stirling Sword for open team and individual events which featured some of the best fencers in the country, while top universities also entered teams.
West Lothian fielded five teams (two epee, two sabre, and a foil team) and while it was a tough challenge they can all be satisfied with their displays and mid-table finishes while there were some stand-out performances.
Three of the youngsters teamed up with head coach Kev Milne to pick up the silver medal, losing out to Durham University in the final, while Griffin Manning reached the quarter-finals for the stand-out individual display for the team.
And the success didn’t end there as the club sealed a huge haul of medals at this week’s Youth Development Series meeting.
The YDS is the main event for fencers aged 15 and under with four events throughout the season. The Series allows for development and competitiveness in an environment that is a little less intense than some of the national UK events, whilst also having the goal of competition and league winners.
An abundance of medals reflected the standard of performances from the West Lothian youngsters and showed that their hard work and determination is certainly paying off in competitions.
The club celebrates it’s four year anniversary this month and if you would like to join, whether you want to compete or simply be part of a community and club for some social time, the club are now taking on beginners.
All kit is provided and the first two sessions are free. Membership is the lowest in Scotland at £20 a month or you can fence at any time for a fiver per session.
