West Ham player ratings vs Leicester City: Jarrod Bowen a real danger but Declan Rice not up to usual level

Craig Dawson’s stoppage time goal rescued a point for an underwhelming West Ham at Leicester City.

After a scrappy opening spell in the wind and rain at the King Power, West Ham struck with the first opening of the game. Jarrod Bowen latched onto a superb ball over the top from Issa Diop, raced forward and sent a superb finish past Kasper Schmeichel.

In the final moments of a scrappy first half the Foxes drew level, Youri Tielemens firing a near unstoppable penalty past Lukasz Fabisanski following Aaron Cresswell’s handball as he tried to defend a corner.

Galvanised by a goal on the brink of half-time, the hosts came out with far more purpose and were soon ahead as Ricardo Pereira rose above Cresswell to meet a Harvey Barnes cross and steer home a fine header.

Moyes sent on Said Benrahma and Nikola Vlasic to spice up West Ham’s forward play but it was Dawson, the most no nonsense of the lot, who saved the day, charging onto a Bowen corner to head past Schmeichel and salvage a point.

Here is how Jack Rosser rated the Hammers…

Lukasz Fabianski 6

Nothing the pole could have done for either goal. Beaten by a fine penalty and a very well placed header.

Vladimir Coufal 4

Made such a fine West Ham debut here last season but could not repeat that performance today. Wasteful on the ball and embarrassed by Harvey Barnes in the second half.

Craig Dawson 7

Not his most encouraging display at the back but stepped up with a goal that could prove so crucial in the race for the top four.

Issa Diop 7

Impressive performance considering his late introduction to the starting XI and recent form. Brilliant assist for Bowen and aggressive defending.

Aaron Cresswell 5

One to forget for the left-back. Conceded a penalty and easily beaten by Pereira for Leicester’s second.

Declan Rice 6

The England international has been superb this season but was simply not at his usual level today. Easily beaten in midfield at times and struggled to get things going on the front foot.

Tomas Soucek 5

Given the chance to play in the more advanced role where he usually so effective in the second half but had very little impact.

Jarrod Bowen 8

Superb goal and looked the only real danger in claret and blue. Scored the opener and provided the assist for Dawson’s late goal.

Manuel Lanzini 5

Restored to the starting XI following injury but not able to have any real impact behind Antonio. Lucky to have lasted so long.

Pablo Fornals 5

Another who could have been replaced far earlier. One goal in 17 games for West Ham now, all after such an encouraging start to the season.

Michail Antonio 5

Six games without a goal for Antonio, who did not even manage a shot at the King Power. Worked hard but showed very little quality in the final third.

Substitutes

Ryan Fredericks 6

Stopped Barnes from causing havoc down West Ham’s right following his introduction.

Said Benrahma n/a

Nikola Vlasic n/a
