West Ham were rocked by more injury woe on Sunday afternoon with Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell both limping off during the Hammers' 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
Antonio was replaced by Andriy Yarmolenko in the 52nd minute with the Ukrainian going on to open the scoring 18 minutes later. The return of Yarmolenko to the matchday squad gave a huge boost to all at the London Stadium, however, the loss of Antonio would be a huge blow to the Hammers' hopes of seeing off Sevilla in the Europa League and continuing their push for European football next season.
football.london understands that Antonio has not suffered a hamstring injury as first feared and it is his thigh that is the issue. The striker will undergo tests today at the Hammers' Rush Green training ground but the first prognosis is he should be available for the second leg against Sevilla on Thursday evening.
Cresswell joined Antonio in the treatment room just five minutes later with the left-back appearing to be suffering from an ankle knock.
The defender was keen to continue but David Moyes insisted on replacing him and Ryan Fredericks took his spot. Cresswell was seen walking out of the London Stadium unaided and without a limp post-match and as with Antonio football.london understands the club are positive about his availability for the Europa League second leg.
The pair will undergo assessment on Monday morning and the hope is neither will join long-term absentees Angelo Ogbonna and Vladimir Coufal in the treatment room for any length of time.
Nikola Vlasic missed out against Villa having picked up a knock versus Sevilla but the Croatian is set to return to training this week with the injury not deemed a minor one
The news regarding Jarrod Bowen is less clear with the club still unable to get to the root of his issue. The attacker is unlikely to be fit on Thursday and is a major doubt for the clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon. West Ham then have a two-week break during the international window during which they hope to get a number of their injured stars back to full fitness for the run in.
Bowen's untimely injury could see the England hopeful miss out on his first international call-up with Gareth Southgate understood to have been monitoring his form in recent weeks.
If Bowen is unable to prove his fitness in time for the upcoming matches against Switzerland and Ivory Coast the next opportunity he would have at gaining international honours would be in June for England's quartet of nations league clashes with Hungary twice, Germany and Italy.
