West Ham 1-1 Chelsea: Blues denied late penalty as pressure builds on Graham Potter

Chelsea were denied a late penalty as they were held to a 1-1 draw against West Ham.

There was controversy at the London Stadium when a shot from Conor Gallagher was clearly blocked by the hand of Tomas Soucek but VAR did not award a spot-kick.

West Ham held on for a point to increase the pressure on Chelsea manager Graham Potter.

Joao Felix had an early goal ruled out for offside but put Chelsea ahead on 16 minutes when he timed a run into the box and volleyed home a cross from Enzo Fernandez.

Felix looked brilliant, Fernandez was allowed to dictate the game, Chelsea had another goal from Kai Havertz ruled out for offside and the Blues were dominant in the early stages.

But West Ham equalised on 27 minutes when a cross from Vladimir Coufal was flicked on by Jarrod Bowen and Emerson Palmieri poked home against his old club at the back post.

Chelsea had enjoyed the better of things in an entertaining first half but there was a real drop-off in the second half.

West Ham thought they had scored a late winner through Tomas Soucek but VAR ruled it out because Declan Rice was offside in the build-up.

Chelsea were then denied what looked like a clear penalty for a handball by Soucek.
