KOLKATA: Among 6,34,142 students, who cleared the Higher Secondary Examinations, 28,162 scored over 90% with a record 272 candidates finishing in the top 10. Sixty-nine students ranked 10th with 97.8%. Board president Chiranjib Bhattyacharya attributed the high scores to students taking the exams from the comfort of their own schools this time.
First among the three major boards to declare the Class-XII results on Friday, the high scores in HS are likely to put pressure on CBSE and ISC Class XII candidates, who will seek admission to undergraduate courses. With the marks-based centralised counselling system for UG admissions set to make a debut this year, the state board Class XII students appear to be at an advantage, as of now. The HS scores could also drive up the college admission cut-offs, college officials said.
