West Bengal: ED attaches properties worth Rs 13.63 crore in illegal coal mining

KOLKATA: The Enforcement Directorate has on Friday attached two properties of Vinay Mishra and Vikas Mishra at Gopinathpur, Purba Bardhaman in connection to illegal coal mining probe.

The property attached by the Central agency is to the tune of Rs. 13.63 crore. The property belongs to a Kolkata based company which has its headquarter on the AJC Bose Road. A company with its office on Dharamadas Row in Kolkata owns the earlier company. Both the Mishra brothers are allegedly directors of the latter company.

The Enforcement Directorate has estimated that proceeds of crime worth Rs 720 crore were generated, in connivance with the prime accused Anup Majee, between July, 2018 and March, 2020. So far the central agency has conducted searches at 56 premises and attached assets to the tune of Rs. 204.64 crore in the case.

Meanwhile, the Calcutta High court has on Thursday turned down Majee's petition against the CBI's move to arrest him and attach his property. Majee had earlier moved against the December, 2020 order of the Special CBI court at Asansol.
