Delays are expected as part of the M57 will be closed this weekend for essential roadworks.
National Highways will be carrying out repairs between junctions one (Tarbock Interchange) and two (Prescot) of the M57 after trying to complete the work for two years. Despite attempts to repair the road, the carriageway continues to deteriorate with potholes and other issues forming regularly.
National Highways undertook an investigation and found a deeper and more extensive resurfacing was needed. The team are planning to resurface over 13 miles of carriageway and said without the work the road would "continue to worsen, meaning more regular working being required in future".

Once completed the company expect the need for more motorway works to be reduced, minimising customer disruption in the long term. Work began on Monday, June 6 and is expected to be complete by the end of November.
Most of the repairs will be carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am, when traffic flows are at their lowest. But this weekend (Saturday, June 25 and Sunday, June 26) will see the motorway closed between the M57 northbound exit and access slip roads at junction 2 during the day.
In a newsletter to people in the area, National Highways said: "We'll also be taking the opportunity to do as much other work as possible along this section of the M57. This includes replacing road markings, traffic detection cables and bridge joints.
"To ensure safety of our workers and motorists there'll be full overnight M57 carriageway closures between junctions one and three. Overnight closures will be ongoing throughout the project, but only the northbound or southbound carriageway will be closed at any one time."
