'Amazing' Scots dad, 24, took his own life in Blackpool hotel during weekend away with girlfriend
An "amazing" dad took his own life after splitting up with his girlfriend during a weekend away in Blackpool, a coroner has ruled. Daryl McWilliam, from Kilmarnock, had travelled to the English seaside resort with his girlfriend of 12 months, Natalie Jones.
On Saturday, February 26, the pair went to Wetherspoons for something to eat before returning to their room at Garvey’s Promenade Hotel. The 24-year-old and his girlfriend spent some time in their room before the couple went back out and visited three pubs in the town centre.
Towards the end of the night Daryl became increasingly drunk and after becoming separated from Natalie he sent her a text and told her: “I don’t want to be with you anymore.” Natalie made several attempts to contact Daryl, who eventually returned to the hotel at around midnight.
The couple had an argument, during which Daryl damaged Natalie’s phone and other belongings in the room, before she started to pack her things into their car, reports Manchester Evening News. When Natalie went back to the room, Daryl wasn’t there, so she went downstairs to the bar to look for him. A short while later Natalie went back up to the room where she found Daryl unconscious.
Huge queues at Glasgow Central after heatwave causes major train disruption for second day
Huge queues have been spotted at Glasgow Central station this afternoon as the heatwave continues to wreak havoc for Scots commuters.
Photos taken inside and outside the popular station, which runs services across the country, show customers lining the city centre streets as direct trains between Scotland and London remain affected after unprecedented temperatures caused damage to rail tracks.
Hundreds of families, shoppers and holidaymakers plied with backpacks and heavy luggage can be seen snaking from the ticket barrier inside the building, out toward Gordon Street and down Union Street.
Groups of unimpressed-looking travellers also appear to stand gathered at the entrance to the station, where the taxi rank is located.
Scots mum raging after house built so close to hers she can chap neighbour's door being sued for £75k
A Scots mum who hit out after a house was built so close to hers she could chap her neighbour's door from her window is now being sued for £75,000.
Mum-of-seven Niki Caira, of Thornton, Fife, told last week how she was horrified when she discovered just how close the luxury home being built next door was going to be to her property. The 39-year-old said she couldn't understand why Fife Council agreed to allow KJJ Properties and businessman Alex Penman to build the two £350,000 new homes, despite objections and 'serious' concerns from neighbours.
Former chairman of Raith Rovers Alex Penman is now suing Niki for defamation of character, after claiming a comment she made on social media caused him to lose tens of thousands of pounds worth of business. The 70-year-old's lawyers served Niki with court papers last Friday afternoon.
They are alleging Niki made comments about Mr Penman on Facebook which attracted significant attention and as a result have defamed his character which has resulted in a loss of earnings, injury and damages to the total of £75,000. They claim the situation also caused Penman distress and embarrassment and ordered Niki or someone acting on her behalf to appear at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Tuesday, July 26.
Tense moment large cargo ship runs aground on River Clyde as coastguard races to scene
A large cargo ship destined for Glasgow ran aground along the banks of the River Clyde yesterday morning, sparking an emergency response from the coastguard.
The Wilson Blyth, which sails under the flag of Barbados, got into trouble in the water at Erskine around 11am after the vessel ran aground just metres from the shore while attempting to sail upward toward the city.
Heart-stopping footage, which was shared on social media, shows the moment the ship came to an abrupt halt in the Renfrewshire town, with the impact of the stop causing waves to momentarily engulf the bottom of the vessel.
Crew members can be seen walking back and forth across the deck and looking overboard, presumably in a state of confusion as the ship moves and drifts ever so slightly with the tempo of the water, although it is largely stationary.
Scots killer jailed over slaying of drug dealer caught with heroin stash in cop raid
A killer once jailed over the slaying of a drug dealer has been caught with a stash of heroin after a raid by cops. James Henry was snared with the haul after being freed from prison early during an 11-year sentence for culpable homicide.
Police recovered around £1000 of heroin from Henry’s Edinburgh home while executing a search warrant. The 47-year-old was returned to prison following his arrest to serve an unexpired portion of his jail term.
He was convicted of taking part in a drugs heist gone wrong in Musselburgh, East Lothian, in April 2010. Knife-wielding Henry and his cohorts hatched a plot to rob Dennis Parker who ended up fatally stabbed.
Henry appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday and pled guilty to heroin possession. Fiscal depute Xander Van Der Scheer said police officers executed a warrant at Henry’s address in the city’s Niddrie area at 8.30am on December 2 2020.
