We tried one of Leith’s iconic Italian restaurants after its transformation

We tried one of Leith’s iconic Italian restaurants after its huge transformation and were completely blown away by the suave interior and delicious new menu.

On Friday night we headed down to Antoinetta’s formerly known as La Favourita. I visited the traditional diner many times when I was still young enough to order from the kid's menu, but when I walked into the suave Italian restaurant I didn’t recognise it at all.

The interior has been totally transformed into a stylish eatery with vibrant and colourful tones that capture the warmth and excitement of Italian hospitality.

Keeping tradition at the heart of the restaurant the menu still has all the classic Italian dishes you would expect but with a twist.

We had a glass of prosecco while we took in the fresh atmosphere and looked at the menu.

The menu is a good size with several dishes in each section that gives you plenty of choice without being overwhelming but it was still a tricky decision.

Eventually, we decided to try the beef carpaccio and calamari followed by nduja rigatoni and mouth-watering pesto gnocchi with sausage.

The starters were brought out fairly quickly and the carpaccio was absolutely divine, the thin slices of beef served with a bed of rocket were just perfect and mouthful after mouthful I was content with my decision.

We went for calamari which was a really generous portion and beautifully cooked with the squid being cut into triangles and served with beetroot aioli.

For mains, we tucked into the rigatoni which was rich and the ultimate comfort food, with delicious sauce and fresh pasta.

The gnocchi was creamy and delicate and the sausage and fried chilli gave it a kick which complemented the pesto perfectly.

We also got to try the TikTok famous cocktail - a Negroni Spagliato - with prosecco in it which was delicious followed by an espresso martini and some blood orange sorbet.
