Pavement parking is a contentious issue in Liverpool.
This morning the issue was brought to the foreground once again after a "belittling and dismissive" response was made by a Sefton Council worker after a private hire car was spotted parked on the pavement on Vernon Street in Liverpool city centre. The responder said they "fail to see how it is causing an inconvenience," while those affected said drivers "these days have a permanent case of me first syndrome"
Last week, multiple stories showed just how "out of control" pavement parking has become in parts of Liverpool. In one photo shared with the ECHO, eight cars can be seen parked on the pavement.

Multiple vehicles can be seen fully on the pavement which runs beside a section of road in Upper Pitt Street. The person who sent the photos, who lives nearby, said "Pavement parking on [the street] is out of control.
They added: "This is causing significant problems for pedestrians, particularly those who are elderly, disabled, or with young children. This is particularly concerning because it forces pedestrians to walk onto the road, which can be dangerous and puts their safety at risk."
Elsewhere, "selfish" drivers were accused of showing "blatant disregard" for pedestrians as cars were pictured parked all the way across a pavement on Covent Garden in the city centre on Saturday. The person who sent the photos said drivers are "consistently blocking the pavement in our community".
They said it has become a "great inconvenience and posing significant risks to the safety of pedestrians," adding it is "disheartening to witness the blatant disregard shown by these motorists who choose to obstruct the pavement with their vehicles".
Pavement parking frustrates many members of the public who regularly report vehicles being parked on pedestrian areas. Cars parked on pavements often cause a nuisance for pedestrians, particularly for those using prams or those in wheelchairs.
City Centre North Cllr Nick Small, told the ECHO that the city council will be increasing its enforcement to stop drivers using pavements in this way. He labelled the act of pavement parking as "selfish and antisocial."
He added: “It really makes it difficult for people travelling around the city. Wheelchairs cannot get down and people are also forced to walk in the road.
“It means that people don’t always have the chance to go out as they can’t always get around. People need to take responsibility and realise that there are consequences for their actions.”
