People across the North East have expressed their delight about Newcastle being shortlisted to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.
On Friday morning, it was announced that the Toon had made the shortlist to host the international event along with six other UK cities - Glasgow, Manchester, Sheffield, Liverpool, Leeds and Birmingham.
Ukraine won the 2022 contest in May with Kalush Orchestra’s ‘Stefania’, which usually means it would host the following year's event. However war-torn country is not able to commit to holding Eurovision next year due to the invasion by Russia.
