'We must be mentally right', Eddie Howe's important message to Newcastle United players ahead of Turf Moor trip

Eddie Howe has asked his players for complete focus on the Magpies' final game of the season at Turf Moor.

The Magpies have been safe for weeks in reality but go into a game that many dubbed a potential relegation shoot-out knowing they will be a top-flight team next term. For Burnley, it could be a tough afternoon and they know if Leeds better their result, it will be the Clarets going down.

Looking ahead to the game, Howe said: "Tactically, we will try and get it right. We know Burnley is a very difficult game - a totally different challenge because of what is at stake.

"We know, from previous experience, we need to be mentally right because it could be a tough day for us if we're not."

Howe said he had questioned United's approach to certain fixtures against relegation-haunted opponents this term and does not want any type of repeat.

He said: "We've gone into some games and the majority of them this season have been us fighting for points, determined to lift ourselves out of a very difficult situation. We know what the atmosphere has been like at St James' and what it has created for the opposition.

"My mind flicks back to the Everton game where I don't think we handled the game particularly well where the crowd were absolutely united in their purpose to alleviate their team out of relegation trouble."
