Christy Dignam's family "blown away" by support shown from Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers

Bohemians will wear a one-off jersey in Friday night’s Dublin derby against Shamrock Rovers, honouring the late Christy Dignam.

Dignam regularly attended matches at both Dalymount Park and Tallaght Stadium.

The Bohs jersey will feature the name of Dignam’s band, Aslan, in place of front-of-shirt sponsor Des Kelly, while there is an image of the hugely popular singer on the back.

Now available to pre-order in Bohs’ online shop, all profits will go to the Hospice, where Dignam spent his final days.

The deadline for orders is midnight on Sunday night, with jerseys expected to be shipped in approximately five weeks.

Collections will also be held at the derby among both sets of supporters, with all money raised going to the hospice, while the set-list on the evening will be an Aslan-only affair.

Christy’s daughter Kiera paid tribute to both clubs, saying: “We have been blown away by the support shown to us by Bohs and Rovers.

“My Dad was a big supporter of the League of Ireland and would absolutely love being included on a jersey and to be honoured in such a way.

“We cannot thank you enough for your generosity towards St Francis Hospice, who do endless work to help people in the position we unfortunately found ourselves in.

“We will be forever grateful for this gesture in memory of my Dad.”
