MUMBAI: “We are in the 21st century and still there are incidences where the girls are treated as commodities and they have been used as a medium for financial benefit," said the Bombay high court expressing concern while granting bail to a woman accused last year of buying a one-year-old child in Maharashtra's Satara.
“It is highly objectionable to the principles of morality and human right that a girl of one year is being sold by the natural mother,” observed the HC single Judge Bench of Justice S M Modak in a February 8 order on the bail plea of the woman accused of buying the baby.
