Customers impacted by a loss of water in parts of Scotland are now back in supply after an "operational issue" cut provisions to thousands of homes on Christmas Day.
Scottish Water confirmed that the problem at its Picketlaw Water Treatment Work in Glasgow has been fixed and have apologised to those impacted. Approximately 5,000 customers were affected in several areas in East Renfrewshire including Newton Mearns, Giffnock, Thornliebank and Clarkston.
Most households were back in supply within hours on Sunday, but some were impacted for longer due to inconsistent pressure in parts of the water network.
Bottled water will remain available at Williamwood High School and St Clare's Primary School to homes in need.
While these water problems were not a result of weather, the recent cold snap has caused many Scottish homes to experience frozen and burst pipes.
A Scottish Water spokeswoman said: "We apologise to customers who were impacted by this issue and we thank them for your patience and understanding and appreciate this occurred during the festive holiday season.
"Our teams worked round the clock from Christmas Day until today (Dec 27) to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and can inform customers that this issue is now resolved with households and businesses back in supply.
"We will continue to monitor the performance of the water treatment works and the network over the coming days."
It comes as British Gas recently issued step-by-step advice on how to thaw frozen pipes as they can flood the home if left untreated.
