Watch: World no.1 Magnus Carlsen walks across mid match to congratulate R Praggnanandhaa

NEW DELHI: As young GM R Praggnanandhaa on Friday stunned second-seeded Hikaru Nakamura to enter the last 16 of the FIDE World Cup chess tournament in Baku, world no.1 Magnus Carlsen, in a delightful gesture, congratulated the teenage Indian prodigy while his match was still on.

In the viral video, Carlsen can be seen walking across to Praggnanandhaa while his own game was still going on and congratulated the Indian.

Five-time world champion and Indian chess legend Viswanathan Anand too hailed the young GM and said, "Praggnanandhaa does it! Eliminating one of the pre tournament favourites Hikaru Nakamura to go through to the next round. A truly impressive performance by Prag!"

Praggnanandhaa will meet Hungarian GM Ferenc Berkes in the round of 16.
