The Washington Commanders started three quarterbacks again in 2022. Carson Wentz, Taylor Heinicke and rookie Sam Howell all started at least one game for Washington. Despite the continued quarterback upheaval, star wide receiver Terry McLaurin established a new career high in receiving yards.
McLaurin, who signed a three-year, $71 million extension last summer, finished with 77 receptions, 1,191 receiving yards, five touchdowns and averaged 15.5 yards per reception. And, finally, McLaurin earned his first Pro Bowl selection.
It was the second consecutive season in which Washington re-signed a captain to a long-term extension [Jonathan Allen in 2021], and that player continued to get better.
Washington fans love McLaurin. If he had consistent quarterback play, he’d be a contender to catch 100 passes and double-digit touchdowns per season. Yet, despite the Commanders’ offensive troubles, McLaurin continues to put in the hard work and show his teammates how it’s supposed to go.
McLaurin had plenty of highlight-reel plays in 2022, showing his ability to catch the deep ball, make contested catches or run after the catch.
