WATCH: Patrick Mahomes intercepted by rising safety Mike Edwards

Mike Edwards was among the Kansas City Chiefs’ most underrated free agent signings in 2023 and is expected to start for the team after the departure of Juan Thornhill in the offseason. Edwards, a former third-round pick, is just 27 years old and will be a mentor for the Chiefs’ youthful secondary as training camp and the preseason wear on.

He gave fans a first glimpse of what he can do on the gridiron during Friday’s practice session, coming down with an interception thrown by quarterback Patrick Mahomes on a ball that was intended for wide receiver Skyy Moore.

Edwards perfectly cut in front of Moore to gain a more advantageous position to make a play on the ball, and came down with a clean pick despite facing contact as he fell to the ground. If plays like this can become routine for him, Edwards could develop into one of Kansas City’s top defenders.
