New footage has emerged of Nancy Pelosi requesting additional security officials to protect the US Capitol during the January 6, 2021 riot.
After evacuating the chamber, the Speaker of the House is shown seated as she speaks to the then governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam.
As she witnesses rioters smash through windows as they stormed the US Capitol building, Ms Pelosi says in the video: “They’re just breaking windows.
“They said someone was shot, it’s just horrendous and at the instigation of the President of the United States.”
Later in the video, reportedly filmed by the Democrat’s daughter, Alexandra Pelosi, the Speaker of the House holds a call with acting attorney general, Jeffrey Rosen.
Together with Senate leader, Chuck Schumer, the pair call for Donald Trump to hold a press conference demanding the violence stop.
They also expressed concerns for the public safety of those protecting the building and for anyone still trapped inside.
A seperate video saw Ms Pelosi and her Democrat colleagues huddled with Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and Republicans calling in help from the acting attonery general.
This comes as the committee investigating the Capitol riots has called on Mr Trump to give evidence.
The former president will now be compelled appear before the January 6 committee about the events in early 2021 which saw five people killed and hundreds, including many law enforcement officers, injured.
The select committee panel voted unanimously to compel the former president to appear. “We must seek the testimony under oath of January 6th’s central player,” said Liz Cheney, the committee’s vice chair.
Cheney added: “We are obligated to seek answers directly from the man who set this all in motion. And every American is entitled to those answers.”
