Dramatic footage has captured the moment massive explosions rocked Caracas as US forces bombed the Venezuelan capital overnight.
The terrifying video shows huge fireballs erupting across the city's skyline as American warplanes pounded military targets in a devastating assault.
At least seven blasts tore through Caracas in the early hours, with eyewitnesses reporting the ominous buzz of low-flying aircraft moments before the strikes hit.
Footage recorded at the scene shows towering columns of smoke and flames billowing into the night sky as the city was plunged into chaos.
Power across southern Caracas was knocked out following the first explosions, which struck just after 2am local time.
The strikes targeted Fuerte Tiuna, a sprawling military complex in central Caracas that houses Venezuela's top brass and senior government officials, where particularly heavy and sustained explosions were reported.
La Carlota airport is also believed to have been hit during the bombardment.
President Donald Trump later claimed the US had "captured" Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, saying they had been seized and flown out of the country.
The American president announced he would hold a press conference at 11am at Mar-a-Lago to provide further details on the operation.
Terrified locals could be heard in videos reacting to the blasts as military vehicles raced through the streets and troops patrolled outside Maduro's presidential palace.
