A man was arrested following a police operation at a home in Melbourne’s south-west, with neighbours anxiously remaining inside their houses as the siege unfolded. The standoff, which unfolded in Spotswood, lasted for about two hours before the man eventually surrendered to police.
The operation commenced shortly after 8am on Friday (June 5, 2026) when officers arrived and began negotiating with the man, believed to be armed, inside a property on Hudsons Road in Spotswood, as reported by 9News. Armed police were later observed positioned at the scene.

The Special Operations Group was called in to help negotiate with the man who police understood to be in possession of a gun. He was arrested by members of the Special Operations Group without incident about 10.20am.
The Special Operations Group was brought in to assist with negotiations involving the man, who police believed was carrying a firearm. At around 10.20am, members of the unit arrested him without incident.
Video of arrest emerges
Multiple media outlets, including 7News Melbourne and 9News, obtained dramatic footage of the man being detained and led away from the property by police. One witness told 9News that there was “a lot of negotiation going on”. “It sent shockwaves through us, a bit scary... being so close to home.”
