Watch: Huge rats climbing the walls of a Council flat complex

Huge rats were seen climbing the walls of a Council flat complex in horrifying footage.

Tenants of the Glovers Court complex say rats have been plaguing the complex since 2021 at least. There are also major issues with the condition of the flats, the residents say.

In the video, rats climb down over a wall and jump into the bins at the bottom. The bins are close to the playground in the city centre complex and the residents previously said it is not safe for their kids to play there.

Dublin City Council said they received a complaint about the rats but an inspection found the area "to be clean".

A DCC spokesman said they "received a recent pest control complaint in relation to the Glovers Court housing complex. Glover Court was then inspected on Tuesday July 26 by Housing Maintenance and the area was found to be clean.

"However, the walls beside the bins were covered in ivy plants coming from the derelict site next door, with vermin possibly climbing on these. The ivy plants have now been removed, the walls cleaned and the area has been baited for vermin. The bins in Glover Court all have lids that prevent vermin from accessing our bins."

The Council said they are in the process of relocating the bins to a "more suitable" area which they hope will curb the issue. A spokesman said: "We are in the process of developing a secure and more suitable bin area for Glover Court, which should greatly contribute to resolving any outstanding pest control issues."

Michelle, a resident of Glovers Court, previously told Dublin Live: "Something needs to be done. It is our generation of children that are suffering from it. We don't care about ourselves. It is the kids that come first and they can't live like this. You wouldn't put a dog in this place.

"Our children can't go out in the park because there are rats the size of cats because the council decided to take the bins from there, where there were no rats, down to their nest."
