The Los Angeles Rams addressed their pass rush early in the draft by selecting Byron Young out of Tennessee, a two-year contributor for the Volunteers. In 2021 and 2022, he had 12.5 total sacks and 23.5 tackles for a loss, proving to be a disruptive force on the edge.
The Rams selected him with the 77th overall pick, adding one of the most athletic pass rushers in the class. He ran a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash at 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds, also posting a 38-inch vertical with an 11-foot broad jump.
Young will have a chance to contribute early on with the Rams, given their lack of depth at outside linebacker. And though he’s undersized, his speed and burst off the edge should make him an impact defender in 2023.
Check out his highlights from the 2022 season, during which he had seven sacks and 12 tackles for a loss.
