The Kansas City Chiefs’ defense seems to be out to prove something during the second week of training camp and rookie cornerback Nic Jones made his presence felt on Friday when he denied Patrick Mahomes a long completion to veteran receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
Kansas City Sports Network posted footage of Jones’ pass breakup to Twitter shortly after his impressive effort took place.

Jones has shown an ability to cover the Chiefs’ burgeoning receiving corps in practice and should get a chance to showcase what he can do in live-game action during the preseason. As a seventh-round draft pick, Jones isn’t likely to be counted on much during the regular season, but if he can keep making plays like these in Kansas City’s three exhibition games, he may push for playing time sooner than some expect.
Fans should keep their eyes on Jones as training camp progresses and particularly during the preseason as the Chiefs’ coaching staff figures out where he will fit in defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s scheme.
