Watch Brian Cox demolish Tory excuses for Liz Truss 'mistakes' on Question Time

A FURIOUS Brian Cox tore into a Conservative Question Time panellist who attempted to defend Liz Truss’s “mistakes” during her time in office.

The Dundee-born Succession star clashed with Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones on the BBC panel show, the self-styled “black farmer” who was a Conservative candidate for Chippenham, Wiltshire in 2010.

Emmanuel-Jones told the London audience “even great people make mistakes” during a discussion of Truss’s chaotic tenure, which saw the UK brought to the brink of a financial crisis because of her Chancellor’s mini-budget last month.

He said: “There is no human being alive that can say actually say they’ve never made a mistake.

“And to have that expectation of somebody is just a ridiculous expectation.”

Cox, who is a fierce supporter of Scottish independence, hit back: “We’re not at a time where we can afford these kinds of mistakes. We’re in a very crucial position. We simply can’t afford these kinds of mistakes and they’re being made time and time and time again and it’s got to stop.

“We need some vision, we have no vision, this party [the Conservatives] has absolutely no vision.”

Emmanuel-Jones further attempted to defend Truss, saying: “Brian, let me just say something. Winston Churchill, one of our greatest leaders, made some big mistakes where lives were lost. Lost.

“And from those lessons, he then went on to be a brilliant leader, so no one can sit here and tell me…”

At this point, he was interrupted by TalkTV presenter Piers Morgan, who said: “You’re not seriously comparing Winston Churchill to Liz Truss?”

Emmanuel-Jones replied: “I’m not comparing the two, I’m just saying even great people make mistakes.

“That’s a cheap shot… it’s about what you learn from that mistake that’s important.”

Cox seized on the comment asking if Emmanuel-Jones thought the embattled PM was a “great person”, to which the former Tory candidate said: “We don’t know yet.”

The actor swiped back: “Well I think we do, I think we’ve got a pretty good idea, I think we’ve got a very good idea.”

Cox made his own views on the Prime Minister clear earlier in the programme, saying he didn’t think Truss could “lead the country” because of the “fiasco” of the Tory party conference at the beginning of the month.

“I don’t think people trust her,” he said. “If you don’t have trust, you don’t have anything.

“I think that’s singularly absent and certainly what’s been going on at the Tory party conference has been an absolute fiasco.

“We’ve seen it, we’ve all witnessed it on a daily basis and she’s the wrong person for the job.

“That’s what I believe, I just don’t think she is the right person for the job.

“And I also don’t trust her, I don’t trust her there’s something about her that I just simply do not trust. So, I ain’t a fan.”
