Watch Billy Gilmour make shock Glenafton appearance as Brighton star put through paces back home

Billy Gilmour is used to running out in the Premier League and on the international stage after moving to Chelsea from Rangers at the age of 16 - but that hasn’t stopped him from turning out for his local side.

Gilmour became a sensation in his time at Milngavie, but before he could even make the switch to the first-team, Chelsea swooped in to take him from the Ibrox club in 2017.

49 Premier League appearances later, Gilmour has been noted as one of the best young players that Scotland has to offer, though it appears unlikely that he will show off his talents in his homeland for a long time as a result of his comfortable situation at Brighton. But that was breached in pre-season recently with the Scot turning out for local side Glenafton Athletic ahead of his return to pre-season below the border.

The sixth-tier side endured their first pre-season outing of the summer months, with the shock of Gilmour being involved likely to have spurred some players on.

The club said on Twitter: "Pre-Season training kicked off for the Glens tonight with players being put through their paces. All our new signings were in attendance as well as a familiar face to Glens fans, @ScotlandNT internationalist and @OfficialBHAFC player @billygilmourrr.

"We look forward to our first pre season fixture on Saturday at St Rochs, and the players and management would all like to wish @billygilmourrr all the best for the upcoming season with Brighton, and we look forward to welcoming him to a game soon."

Gilmour earned plaudits for his performance against Arsenal which saw Brighton secure Europa League football for the first time in their history, alongside strong appearances for Scotland on the international stage.
