Watch as Scott McTominay Spain vs Scotland goal controversially ruled out

This is the moment Scotland were cruelly denied a stunning lead against Spain in Seville.

Scott McTominay appeared to have fired Scotland into the lead with a powerful free-kick into the far corner.

The Manchester United midfielder brilliantly curled just inside the far post to stun those inside the Estadio La Cartuja de Sevilla.

The home support was silenced with those in the Tartan Army jubilant as a spot in Euro 2024 seemed to move a step closer with a huge goal.

However, VAR intervened to rule out the goal for a foul on Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon.

Referee Serdar Gözübüyük motioned for a VAR check after the strike before heading over to the pitchside monitor.

And after a short review, he decided the goal should be ruled out for a foul on goalkeeper Simon.

Jack Hendry was adjudged to have fouled the keeper as McTominay's strike flew into the far corner.

The defender appeared to ever so slightly touch the goalkeeper who didn't even appeal for a foul after the ball found the net.

However, Viaplay report that offside could be the reason for the decision with UEFA sources reportedly suggesting Hendry was penalised for offside despite earlier stating a foul was given.
