The preseason is a great time to get playmakers in rhythm before games start to count toward playoff eligibility, and the Jacksonville Jaguars took full advantage of their exhibition matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers to do just that. Wide receiver Christian Kirk, who was injured earlier in training camp, saw his first significant action, and second-year running back Travis Etienne got several reps as the team’s bell-cow back.
Jacksonville posted their highlight reel from Saturday’s game to Youtube, and despite the less-than-positive outcome, it is an encouraging sign that the Jags might be a fun team to watch this season. Check out the video at the link below:
All the Jaguars’ playmakers were out in force against Pittsburgh, and if they had just been able to score a touchdown in the effort, they likely could’ve secured their first win of the 2022 campaign. Instead, they’ll have to wait for Thursday’s tilt against the Falcons at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta to end their preseason with the sweet taste of victory.
The result wasn’t what they were hoping for against Pittsburgh, but the team is now squarely focused on their next game on Thursday as they look to end the preseason with a win. Momentum could play a big factor in getting off to a hot start once the games start counting, but don’t expect too much from the Jaguar’s top players this week.
Trevor Lawrence and the starting offense are unlikely to see too many snaps against the Falcons but don’t be surprised to see Jacksonville’s first-team defense take the first couple of drives against Atlanta’s backups. With so many young and inexperienced players in the linebacker corps and on the defensive line, this last opportunity for a dress rehearsal should be a great chance to make sure all their ducks are in a row heading into their Week 1 tilt against the Washington Commanders in September.
