A watchdog joined a chorus of criticism over the Government’s decision not to compensate women affected by the way changes to the state pension age were communicated.
Ministers accepted a finding of maladministration by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) and apologised for a 28-month delay in writing to 1950s-born women, but ruled out paying up to £10.5 billion in compensation.
