It appears the Washington Huskies will have their leading rusher available for the national championship.
Dillon Johnson, who suffered a bruised left knee and aggravated a right foot injury in the final minute of the Huskies’ win over the Texas Longhorns in the Sugar Bowl, is expecting to play and says he will be “ready to rock and roll.”
“I’m as good as it’s gonna be,” Johnson said Saturday. “I’m gonna put it in God’s hands and I’ll be ready to play on Monday.”
In 13 games this season, Johnson registered 1,162 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 222 attempts (5.2 average). He logged 49 rushing yards and two touchdowns against Texas.
“He’s had a great week of rehab,” Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb said Saturday. “... I think that he’s feeling a lot better. I know he’s a very determined young man, so I would be shocked if he wasn’t able to come out there and make an impact.”
The Huskies (14–0) are looking to claim their third national championship in program history against the Michigan Wolverines (14–0).
It will be a tough task for Johnson and the Huskies’ run game on Monday, as the Wolverines allowed the eighth-fewest rushing yards per game (93.1) in college football this season.
