Washington state now accounts for 16 of the 22 illnesses in the multistate Salmonella outbreak tied to recalled broccoli sprouts, and the county breakdown has shifted since the state's first advisory. Spokane County has risen to three cases and Skagit County to two, while Island County appears for the first time, according to the Washington State Department of Health. King County, which contains Seattle, remains the largest single county at four cases.
The revised distribution puts nearly three-quarters of the known outbreak inside one state, spread across both sides of the Cascades. Whatcom County has three cases, and Snohomish, Walla Walla and Yakima counties have one each. Two Washington residents have been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported anywhere in the outbreak.
