Warriors come alive in 3rd to beat Portland

SAN FRANCISCO — The Warriors came alive in the third quarter Tuesday night to rally back from a double-figure deficit to beat the Portland Trail Blazers 123-105.

Jordan Poole scored 29 points and Klay Thompson added 23 points and eight rebounds to help the Warriors extend their win streak to three.

The Warriors looked to be putting up another dud, falling into a 17-point hole by halftime. But Golden State pulled out one of its trademark third-quarter rallies — something that’s been a rarity this season — to help seal its third straight win. Jordan Poole, who had a rough first three games out of the All-Star break, led the Warriors in scoring with 29 points. Klay Thompson added 23 and Donte DiVincenzo added 21.

With Dallas suffering a two-point loss to the Indiana Pacers, the 32-30 Warriors slid into sixth place of the Western Conference standings. Meanwhile, the 29-32 Trail Blazers remain in 11th.

The Warriors struggled to get anything going in the first half. They had two injury scares, with Poole heading into the locker room after getting caught in a collision as he sat on the bench and Draymond Green getting looked at after injuring his wrist. Both returned to the game without any apparent issues.

The Warriors outscored the Trail Blazers 39-17 in the third for their largest point differential in any quarter this season. Thompson drained a 3 with 1:46 left in the third to give the Warriors their first lead of the game. The Blazers would trail the rest of the way.

The Warriors seem to be picking up steam, with Stephen Curry’s return imminent. Curry scrimmaged earlier in the day and said he was feeling good.

“You just got to believe, baby! You just got to believe!” A Warriors fan yelled as he exited Chase Center.

The Warriors will have a day off Wednesday before returning to action Thursday to host the Los Angeles Clippers.
