After revealing the first look at Kill the Justice League gameplay during the February PlayStation State of Play, Warner Bros. and Rocksteady are reportedly gearing up for another Suicide Squad game delay. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said in a new report that sources familiar with the matter believe Warner Bros. will release the superhero game sometime in fall 2023 instead.
Schreier said in the report that Rocksteady received largely negative feedback after the gameplay segment, with fans criticizing the game’s microtransactions, battle pass, and the requirement to have a stable internet connection even to play in single-player mode.
Whether the reported delay will result in changes to that structure remains unclear. Schreier said in a follow-up on Twitter that pushing the Suicide Squad game out of its May release date slot is likely just so the team has more time to test and polish and to avoid releasing it in a period where several high-profile games are launching.
“A delay like this is mainly for polish, not to overhaul the core gameplay that caused the backlash,” Schreier said. “Suicide Squad started off as a Game as a Service and will remain one short of a complete reboot, which would require a much longer delay.”
Also releasing in May are The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Redfall, with Diablo 4 close behind in early June and Final Fantasy 16 releasing later in June.
