Warburtons award £20,000 grant to Lanarkshire community organisation

A Coatbridge community organisation has received a five-figure slice of funding from leading bakery brand Warburtons.

The £20,000 grant awarded to Kirkshaws Neighbourhood Centre will help the facility provide healthy cooking classes to people in need.

The group supports residents of Kirkshaws and the wider South Coatbridge area by advancing education and providing facilities in social welfare, recreation, and other activities to improve the quality of life for locals.

The grant from Warburtons will be put towards the development of the centre's health and wellbeing project, which aims to provide healthy cookery workshops to those struggling from the increase in the cost of living.

The funds will also allow the centre to deliver classes and food items to identified families with assistance from FareShare, Neighbourly and Lanarkshire Food and Health Partnership.

William McBride from Kirkshaws Neighbourhood Centre, told Lanarkshire Live : "We are grateful for the support that Warburtons has been able to offer.

"The £20,000 grant will enable us to teach young people, parents and carers how to cook healthy, low-cost meals and snacks and provide essential knowledge on budgeting for food shopping and making healthy choices."

The Warburtons Foundation is committed to helping organisations in local areas throughout the UK through product donations, education programmes, and financial giving, and has pledged to donate one million fresh products nationally to schools, foodbanks and community groups by the end of the year.

Jonathan Warburton, chairman of Warburtons, said: “We’re very pleased to be able to provide some help to Kirkshaws Neighbourhood Centre through our local grants scheme.

"Through the invaluable work that the centre does, more young people, families and carers will be able to benefit from the support and information available to them.

“The Warburtons Foundation continues to look for ways to help charities and community groups across the UK, through product donation, education, and financial giving.

"In what has been a very testing couple of years, we will continue to listen and act so that we can support families as best we can."
