Want to play for a $10 million purse? USGA announces 26 qualifying sites for U.S. Women’s Open at Pine Needles

The United States Golf Association has announced 26 qualifying sites for the 77th U.S. Women’s Open. And there’s much to play for with a new $10 million purse on the line, up from $5.5 million in 2021.

The first 36-hole qualifier will take place on Tuesday, April 19 at Meridian Valley Country Club, in Kent, Washington. The competitions will be spread across 17 U.S. states plus three international sites through May 16. International qualifying will take place in South Korea, Japan and England after being canceled the past two years due to the worldwide pandemic.

Female professionals and amateurs with a handicap index not exceeding 2.4 may apply. Online entry applications open on Wednesday, February 16 and extend through Wednesday, April 6 at 5 p.m. EDT.

This year’s U.S. Women’s Open will be contested June 2-5 at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina, with a field size of 156. This will be a record fourth USWO held at Pine Needles. Cristie Kerr won the last USWO held there in 2007, with Karrie Webb (2001) and Annika Sorenstam (1996) winning as well.

Yuka Saso triumphed at the 2021 U.S. Women’s Open at historic Olympic Club, defeating Nasa Hataoka in a three-hole playoff.
