Delhi: Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk on Sunday began his hunger strike at the Ladakh Bhawan in Delhi after he was denied the permission to stage a protest for Ladakh's Sixth Schedule status at the Jantar Mantar.
Earlier in the day, the activist took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to inform that they were denied permission to sit on a fast at the Jantar Mantar.

Sonam Wangchuk, along with others, began their fast close to the gate of the Ladakh Bhawan. They also raised slogans such as 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai', 'Jai Ladakh' and 'Save Himalaya'.
Wangchuk said he wanted to meet the top leaders to discuss the demands of the Ladakh people.
He added that despite previous assurances, no meeting dates were given, prompting him to resume his hunger strike.

Last month, he spearheaded 'Delhi Chalo Padayatra' to seek statehood for Ladakh, its inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. (with Agency inputs)
